Dear Ambassador Hua Junduo,

On May 17, 1995, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima (the 11th Panchen Lama of Tibet), His family, Chadrel Rinpoche and His Secretary, and other Monks involved in His recognition were illegally abducted by officials of your government and removed from Tibet. Since this time, no one has seen or talked to these individuals, including officials from the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and various governments from around the world. As of today, all of these persons are missing and there has been no indication that they are alive.

On October 2, people all over the world will celebrate the Birthday of Mahatma Gandhi; a powerful leader of non-violence, peace, and cultural, political, and religious freedoms. Given this auspicious occasion, I respectfully request that you respond to the following questions:

1. How is Gedhun Choekyi Nyima's health?
2. Is there a legal basis for His detention?
3. Does Gedhun Choekyi Nyima have regular access to an independent lawyer?
4. Has Gedhun Choekyi Nyima been formally charged with a crime? If so, what are the charges, what is the evidence against Him, when will He be brought to trial and how will the trial be conducted?
5. If Gedhun Choekyi Nyima has not been formally charged, when will He be released?
6. When will the world see Gedhun Choekyi Nyima?
